In this projects practical tools will be developed to support (i) planning of new and (ii) optimisation of the existing waste management systems in the European cities. The targeted tools are: Waste generation prognostic model and Sustainability criteria and indicators for assessment/benchmarking of waste management scenarios. The developed tools will be then practically verified through application for waste management planning and/or optimisation in the selected cities from rapid growing European regions: Barcelona, Tarragona (Spain), Xanthi (Greece), Wroclaw (Poland, Nitra (Czech Republic) and Kaunal (Lithuania). The proposed decision supporting tools will be suitable for use in any other European region, for the purpose of waste management optimisation and/or benchmarking.
