Sustainable Built Environment Conference (SBE19), Resilient Built Environment for Sustainable Mediterranean Countries, Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy

Metabolism of Cities participated in the Resilient Built Environment for Sustainable Mediterranean Countries, Sustainable Built Environment Conference (SBE19) in September 4-5, 3-2019 in Milan, Italy. Our Metabolism of Cities Co-Founder member Dr. Gabriela Fernandez and Carol Maione presented a section of the Urban Metabolism and Minority Pulse Campaign called “Localizing the SDGs through tailored-based training solutions targeting students and academics.” The presentation focuses on understanding, education, and knowledge gaps on topics related to sustainable development such as urban metabolism, responsible use of natural resources, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This work is part of a broader study that aims at disseminating education on topics at all levels of societies, including minority groups such as children, elderly, persons with disabilities, students and academics, women, LGBTI+, and homeless and refugees. The international conference belong to the Sustainable Built Environment (SBE) series of conferences, is organized by Politecnico di Milano with four international organizations: 1) International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB, cibworld.nl), 2) International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE, iisbe.org), 3) United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment, unemvironment.org), and 4) International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC, fidic.org).
