Participating in an essay contest and trying to get published in the next Flevo Campus essay book

Flevo Campus is found on the border of the city and one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world. It is the place where innovations in the urban food supply are put into practice through researchers, teachers, students, entrepreneurs and changemakers.
The idea of generating essays stems from the fact that we live in different situations with various issues such as devastated landscapes, biodiversity loss, soil degradation, unhealthy diets: our food system is cracking at the seams. The actual supply chain has grown up, but its downsides outweigh its benefits. Everyone involved agrees that things must change. Thus, the essays seek to illustrate ways that provide insights into the complex problems involved, question our assumptions, and offer a nuanced but radical perspective on the future of food.
Ramiro Schiavo, our member based in Argentina, had received the invitation to submit an essay to the competition, because he had downloaded their previous book: “Feeding the City - Farming and the Future of Food” and now Flevo Campus is looking for the best ideas around the topic of urban food systems to help build the food system of the future. The question arises more urgently than ever now: how do we feed a rapidly increasing urban population in the 21 century? What has gone wrong so far, and how can things be improved? How to protect biodiversity or keep urban residents healthy?

The Topic Question is: Do you have a strong opinion about urban food supply? How do we feed the city?

From Ramiro’s perspective, the essay is about four dimensions of Human Being’s food (habits). He developed four essential dimensions for the correct physiological functioning, plus a modern trend idea regarding quality and pharmaceutical way of transporting nutrients (food issue and emphasis on consumption).

Ramiro’s essay abstract has been accepted and he received an acknowledgement of receipt of his abstract (summary), and then, in a second step, after he has been chosen, he has to write a full essay. Finally, in the third step in this competition edition, three winners will be chosen in three categories. Then, perhaps the essay could be part of the book (to be edited by the end of 2020).
We will keep you posted with updates.
